New Organics and Recycling Guidelines

Beginning October 1, 2025, our Organics and Recycling programs have expanded to allow more accepted materials! See below the quick guides or visit our Residential Collection pages for more information.

 City of Manteca Solid Waste Division Green Organics Cart Guide. Don't Waste It, Compost It! Accepted in green cart - Green Waste: grass and weeds, leaves, small branches and brush, tree trimmings, flowers and floral trimmings. Note: extra branches smaller than 3 feet should be bundled and placed next to the green cart on pickup day. Food Waste: leftover and spoiled food, coffee grounds and paper filters, fruits and vegetables, eggs and eggshells, meat, dairy products (no liquid), soiled pizza boxes. Not Accepted: hazardous waste, universal waste such as batteries and fluorescent tubes, electronic waste, dirt sand and rocks, recyclables, styrofoam and packing peanuts, bubble wrap and plastic film, animal waste (place in garbage). Plastic bags and plastic compostable bags are not allowed in the green cart - paper bags are recommended. Organics carts cannot be overloaded. All cart lids must close. Plastic: #1-#7 plastic, mixed rigid plastics. Glass: glass bottles, glass jars. Paper: mixed paper, glossy paper, newspaper, paper bags. Cardboard: corrugated cardboard, paper board, cartons. Note: extra cardboard should be cut down to 2x2 pieces, bundled together and can be placed next to the recycling cart on the day of pickup. Metal: aluminum and aluminum foil, cans. Plastic bags with #1-#7 recycling symbol may be placed in blue cart - check bag or box for symbols. Services Provided

All residential refuse services are collected every week. Garbage in the brown carts, Recycling in the blue carts, and Organics (compost) in the green carts. These carts should be placed in the gutter, 3 feet from any other cart and 5 feet from any parked vehicle.

Carts should be put out the night before collection or by 5:00 a.m. on the scheduled day for pickup. All cart lids need to be completely closed. Emptied carts must be put away within 24 hours as per City Municipal Code 13.02.160.

Garbage, recycling, and organic carts are only available in a standard size.  If you would like a 32-gallon cart, an application for an exemption must be turned in to the Solid Waste Division.  The rate for the garbage services will remain the same even if the application is approved. 

Solid Waste Residential Charge:  $58.72
(Effective January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026) 
This price includes a standard recycling (blue) cart and a standard organics (green) cart. 

Additional Organics Cart: $20.00

Additional Garbage Cart: $16.97

"Extra Refuse" stickers are available from the Finance office located at: 1001 West Center St. or the Solid Waste office located at: 210 E. Wetmore St. These stickers allow you to place out for collection up to three 32-gallon bags of extra garbage that will not fit into your garbage cart.

The City also provides a special service pick-up for large amounts of waste, to be priced on-site.

Residents and businesses may rent commercial-size containers at the commercial rates; these are containers from 3 cubic yards to 6 cubic yards that may be placed curbside or on your property. For those really big jobs, we can also provide drop-box containers from 10 cubic yards to 40 cubic yards at the commercial rates.
