Home MenuAnimal Services Unit
The Animal Services Unit is responsible for protecting the health and safety of the citizens and their pets in the City of Manteca.
We provide a variety of services to the citizens in the City of Manteca, including:
- Transporting stray animals that were injured to emergency vets.
- Answering calls concerning suspected abuse or cruelty to animals.
- Responding to livestock issues within the City limits.
- Helping citizens resolve nuisance problems, such as dogs barking excessively
- Investigating dog and cat bite complaints.
- Picking up stray animals.
- Assisting other agencies such as surrounding county agencies, rescue agencies, the Manteca Police Department, the Manteca Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol.
- Educating pet owners on the importance of spaying or neutering their dogs and cats.
Most importantly, we keep lost pets safe and sound so that they can hopefully be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.
Hours
The Manteca Animal Shelter is open Tuesday - Saturday 10:00am - 4:00pm, closed holidays.
Note: The shelter may be temporarily closed during business hours for animal calls and pickups.
Lost Your Pet?
The shelter will hold onto a stray animal for a minimum of 72 hours (not counting days we are closed) for a possible owner to claim their lost pet. However, an animal may be euthanized immediately if suffering from an illness or injury. After the holding period, an animal may be evaluated and placed for adoption.
Losing your pet is stressful — both for you and your pet. Please include Animal Services in your search. It is always recommended that you walk through the kennels to make sure your pet is not here. If your dog is licensed or microchipped, we will attempt to contact you. It is vitally important that any phone numbers connected to your pet's license or microchip are on file and up to date.
Other things you can do to find your pet:
- Search 24petconnect.com by zip code — animals entered into our database will be available for viewing
- Ask your neighbors, post on social media, ask your mail carrier or others in the neighborhood
- Place an ad in the local newspaper and offer a reward if found
- Check your local newspaper "found" section
- Check Craigslist or other websites where your pet may be listed as found
Please be aware there may be a fee associated with picking up your pet. Any owner reclaiming an impounded animal shall pay impoundment and boarding fees before the animal will be released.
No dog shall be released without the owner presenting proof of rabies vaccination within the past twelve (12) months. Owners unable to provide proof shall be required to have the dog vaccinated prior to release.
Found a Lost Pet?
If you have found an animal and are trying to find the owner, you are welcome to use the resources at our shelter. We encourage you to come in and view the lost pet reports that owners fill out when visiting our shelter.
You may bring your found animal to the shelter so we can scan for a possible microchip. There is no charge for this service.
We highly recommend filling out a Found Animal Report so that people searching for their lost pets can reference your description. You may do this in person or by downloading the form.
Impounded Animals
Please be aware there may be a fee associated with picking up your pet from Animal Services as the shelter provides vaccinations, food, water and shelter to all animals brought in. Any owner reclaiming an impounded animal shall, before the animal will be released, pay impoundment and boarding fees.
No dog shall be released from the animal control facility without the owner presenting proof that the dog has had a rabies vaccination within the past twelve (12) months. An owner unable to provide proof shall be required to have the dog vaccinated prior to release.
