What is a Business License and Who Needs One?

A Business License Certificate or "Business License" is an annual tax paid by all persons and entities that sell, vend, or provide a good or service in the City of Manteca.

A Business License is required regardless if the business is permanent, temporary, seasonal, or a one-time event. Fees and requirements will vary depending on the business type; out-of-town vendors, home-based businesses, mobile food vendors, and businesses operating from commercial or industrial locations.

Considerations Before Applying for a Business License

  • Avoid signing a rent/lease agreement or making significant investments before verifying all applicable requirements.
  • Contact the City's Planning Division to confirm the business type/use is permitted at your preferred location.
  • Do not pay or apply for a Business License before completing all applicable approvals and permits from City Department's, County, or State regulatory agencies.
